Translation: On the outskirts of the city, Towards the ruins lies An abandoned, lonely well Within which, in the cold dark Lie watery depths And stairs immersed in this ancient, bounded water quite like the thought whose basis is beyond understanding and yet its depth is indubitable Surrounding the well Are tangled branches And silent syconium trees On whose branches dangle The nests of owls Brown, round and desolate. An electrifying phantasm of a hundred virtues Rides on the raw, green scent of the forest, floating And becomes a doubt, dense – Of an unknown, long past greatness Which stays Like a constant knocking in my heart On the parapets of this well The alluring valerian rests Its elbow, and sits With its star-white flowers Next to it, a bunch of red flowers Gently sways As if gesturing It calls me towards a danger That lies in the direction Of the well’s dark mouth Which gazes vacantly at the skies. In the vacuous depths of the well Sits a Brahmarakshas, and from within Emerges the echo of an echo, A jumble of insane words A dense ejective And to clean his bodily filth, To wash off the shadow of his sins Day and night, restless, the Brahmarakshas Scrubs his body, his hand-claws Clean his hands, chest, face Masterfully, and yet There is dirt, There is still dirt And from his lips A bizarre hymn, some angry chant Or curses in pure Sanskrit The lines on his brow knit into Glistening strings of criticism The insane flux of this endless bath… A life devoid of sympathy But when, on the inner walls Of this deep well, a slanting ray Of sunlight strikes, and its photons Reach the bottom of the well The Brahmarakshas thinks the Sun Has bowed to him in deference When the starlight forgets its way And strikes against the wall The Brahmarakshas thinks The stars worship him As they would a wise teacher His ravaged body and mind Forever believing that even the heavens beseech him and acknowledge his superiority. And then with a redoubled frightening vigor That knowledgeable mind starts reciting From Sumerian and Babylonian folk tales to Melodious vedic hymns, and formulae, prosodies, theorems From the ancients to now, all the hypotheses From Marx, Engels, Russell, Toynbee, From Heidegger and Spengler, Sartre and Gandhi Expositing newly upon their theories, he continues to bathe Into the evening, Inside the vacuous depths of the lonely well

Translation: This thundering, echoing agitation These sounds arising from the depths These newly resuscitated, extinct words* Every word battles its antonym The form battles its reflection A disfigured figure is formed As the sound battles its own echo And on the parapets of the well, Resting its beautiful green elbow The star-white flowers of the valerian listen To these sounds. And they listen, the delicate flowers Of the crane berry The ancient syconium trees And so do I, to The tragedy that unfolds through deranged symbols trapped inside the well

Translation: A shadowy, tall staircase And its dark stairs Belonging to An intimate, strange world Climb up, climb down Climb up again, and tumble down Sprained feet, and the chest Stained with wounds The struggle between good and evil And even more extreme The struggle between the good and the better A tiny, concentrated success A magnanimous failure … the agonies of superfluous completionism Are quite lovely A geometrically symmetric pairing- Grandiose superficial moral values With microscopic innate ones. To satiate excessive completionism Has never been easy The subtexts of the human soul Are quite lovely indeed The sun rises, and lets flow The river of its red, caring rays On the walls The moon is troubled And covers his sores With its bright, white bandages. On anxious speartips are the stars scattered across the heavenly cloth Like infinite decimals converging upon Decimal points scattered across this tangled mathematical field. (Where) he was killed, he was martyred and he lies splayed his hands spread apart, his chest thrust out like that of an explorer.

Translation: The persona is like a fragile, crystalline house In which lies a staircase, and on it lonely stairs The climb was quite difficult Let us leave those stairs of Exceptional emotions and exceptional logic And harmoniously structured mathematical propositions to him In search of those emotions, rationales and harmonies He wandered amongst scholars and philosophers To find a teacher. But the age changed and arrived then the capitalist … from profitable ventures came wealth And from wealth the mind, And from the depths of this wealth addled mind The shadow of truth Would forever scream. Within his soul, however This persona held a lively discord A global conflict! At the feet of greatness A melancholic heart. If I had met it in those days I would have lived his sufferings myself And told him of his own importance, his greatness. And the utility of his greatness For the likes of us I would tell him of the importance Of his psyche. Ground he was between Two hard slabs, from within and without - Such despicable tragedy. In the well, he himself Talks endlessly in these deranged symbols About how he kept at his mathematics In a cell, and died In the thorny dark clearing Of a dense forest Like a dead bird, he departed That unknown flame fell asleep forever Why did this happen? Why did it? I want to be a disciple Of this Brahmarakshas Like the water against his chest So that I can take, His incomplete work, The source of his pain, To its utter conclusion
